MY OLYMPIC CATS
This picture was inspired by the Poseidon Temple in Greece and by a
building in the old town of Stockholm which also has the same steps and
pillars. A group of female cats is discussing the approaching male cat.
The same male cat leaves, the females are still talking and a little
kitten has arrived on the scene. |

THREE OF SIX
This picture mixes up the bodies and the heads
of the cats so when you look a head, you are
not sure which body it belongs to. You don’t
always know who you are talking to and while
you think you see something, maybe you don’t
know what you are looking at. |

AMOR, PSYCHE AND...
A female cat is caressed by a tom cat but her
attention has drifted to thoughts of an earlier
love who she can’t forget - there is a third cat
between them. On the left, another threat is
approaching... |

THE KITTEN AT REST
A shy little kitten is dozing quietly, very contented
with life, still too young and innocent to
have any worries about the world. |

THE KITTEN – WHAT IS THIS?
The first time a kitten sees a mouse there is a
strong instinct to do something, but the question
is what should be done?
The series of pictures “The Young Rebel” followed
the kitten pictures. They depict the process
of growing up and learning to behave as
we move from the innocence of early childhood
to the uncertainty of adolescence. These
pictures were inspired by observations of my
son (and memories of myself). |

YOUNG REBEL - SOMETHING THERE?
The cat’s eyes are concentrated on something.
She’s a teenager so maybe she’s looking at a
handsome young tom cat?

YOUNG REBEL - WET AND MISERABLE
Teenage life is not always predictable or pleasant.
Sometimes things turn out badly and it’s
hard to shake off uncertainty. |

YOUNG REBEL - I HAVE TO GO!
Embarrassed and feeling like a misfit, it’s time
to leave with my broken tail (and broken pride). |

YOUNG REBEL - FREE AT LAST
My son graduated and left Stockholm for
Sydney - free at last! |

MON CHAT DRIAN
This picture is based on the Piet Mondrian’s
different paintings called “Composition with
red, yellow and blue”. When the cat climbs on
Mondrian’s abstract world, it suddenly becomes
more real and useful. |

THE UNDUSTRACTABILITY OF TIME (OR THE
IMPOSSIBILITY OF DESTRUCTION OF TIME)
This picture is based on the Salvador Dali
painting “The Persistence of Memory”. The cat
is pulling on the clock’s hand in an effort to
change the passage of time. |

|
MUNCH’S RETURN
This picture is based on the Edvard Munch’s
painting “The Scream”. The cat is resting quietly
on the rail of the bridge when he sees
Munch returning as a skeleton. The cat lets out
a primal scream and flees! |

THE BLACK MODEL (LE MODÈLE NOIR)
This picture is based on two works, one by
Magritte (Le modèle rouge) and the other by
Van Gogh with his travelling boots. Not surprisingly,
the kitten prefers the cosiness of the
Van Gogh boot. |

ON THE WAY TO LIGHT AND FREEDOM
The cat is climbing up towards the light and
freedom of the roof above but before she can
do this, she has to overcome the obstacle of
the broken ladder. |

D’ARTAGNAN AND THE THREE MUSKATEERS
“One for all and all for one” is a good motto for
alley cats, always on the watch. |

A WAITING
A cat is shown in a classic pose, sitting very
still and just looking but the cat’s head obscures
the object of his attention so we are left to
imagine what might be out there. |
|

|
CLOSE TO THE WARMTH
Big cats living in the wild are deeply afraid of
fire but domestic cats and humans share a love
for the warmth and mystery of an open fire. |

WAKE UP MY LITTLE ONE...
A shy kitten is newly awakened and instinctively
wants to rub noses and to be touched by
her mother’s warm body.

THE SHADOW
The cat is a symbol for many humans because
we want to be seen to be bigger and more
important that we really are. The candle light
gives the cat an impressive big shadow. |

A MEETING WITH A POSSIBILITY TO...?
An unexpected meeting on the pier railing can
have some unexpected consequences. |

CLOSELINESS - WARMTH
With a little luck, the sun will be setting on a
new love. |

ON THE ROAD TOWARDS AN UNKNOWN
DESTINATION
This is one of my most important pictures. The
cat is symbolically and physically balanced on
the railing of a pier, walking towards the light.
Our passage through life is always moving
forward even if we can’t see where we are
going. Life is a balancing act between the
excitement of taking risks and the security of
firm ground. |
