JONAS GLOCK – A SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Jonas Glock is an artist and architect who lives and works in Stockholm and on an island far out in the Baltic
archipelago.
An artist diverse in both subject and media, he uses a number of graphic
techniques including lithography, giclee, silk screening, etching and lino
cuts. He paints mostly in acrylics but also in oils, and has made large
sculptures. Most wellknown is the statue “The salmon girl” in the Morrum
river close to the salmon research center.
The son of two accomplished sculptors and teachers, Jonas has been
drawing, painting and sculpting as long as he can remember, a process
he describes as being “trained and working like an old fashioned apprentice”.
He was educated at the Royal Technical High School in Stockholm
and the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm. His education and work as
an architect has enriched his creative life but he always returns to drawing
and painting.
Jonas has no inclination towards abstract art, finding his life-long inspiration
in the “beautiful, real world”, responding in a physical and emotional
way to the abundant beauty of nature.
Insects, animals and birds in particular cats and cranes, have always
fascinated and inspired Jonas as they are graphically striking, has a
expressive body-language, and have a rich physical radiation loaded with
mystery. He has used the cat motif for many years following a mural
project which used the expressive body language of cats as symbols for
human behaviour and situations. He finds the cat such as expressive and
beautiful animal that he is never tempted to caricature them or turn them
into cute objects.
His work is held in private and corporate collections in Sweden (and) all
over the world and his sculptures and murals can be seen in various
public spaces in Sweden. |
